Barack Obama Elementary School

Richmond, VA

The new name for the Richmond School was chosen from seven other names that made it to the final round of voting from the board. The vote was six to one. Students of the school as well as members of the community all submitted ideas for the renaming. On the final night of voting, the top three finalist names were Barack Obama, Northside, and Wishtree. The school is not the only one named after the 44th president, but could be the first to go from being named after a Confederate general to being named after Barack Obama.
