As a top ranked elementary school in Mississippi, Community members voted overwhelmingly to change the name to Barack Obama Elementary School.

This new school was among 3 open in 2012. The names of the schools were chosen by the board after an essay contest. The winner said the names would inspire students they could be anything they put their mind to.
