Act Locally

There are many communities around the country that have named a location after the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama. Will yours be next?

It all starts with one interested citizen. She tells another, and they tell two more, and before you know it, a movement is started.

Sounds easy? We know that it is not. It takes commitment, determination and perseverence. It takes agreement of your local community and civic groups, local government and business. It sometimes can take a great deal of money with changing signs and maps and directories among other costs.

What worthwhile cause didn't?

We want you to know that you are not alone. We have a staff of volunteers and a network of experts that want you to succeed, because if you do, so do we.

Start with a little research. States have Preservation Offices that can tell you processes, laws, active efforts currently underway and many more useful pieces of information. Plus, they may be your best advocate for your cause, so it's good to make a contact there.

We are here to help. If you run into a hurdle, or if you have a basic question, don't be afraid to ask. Many schools, parks, streets and programs began with a simple question. Use our Contact page and fill in our Feedback Form. We'll contact you right away with whatever help we can.
